Power-Narratives SeriesThe Obscurers' Steps 2025 As my long-term professional trajectory—a staged project under the theme “narratives of
power”—this work seeks to delve deeper into the power discourses woven into everyday life. It
unfolds as a kind of mass game, deploying multiple bodies in collective action, making full use
of the venue (a tiered athletic field), imaging techniques, and contemporary media channels. At
its core, it obscures individuality while articulating the unrealized dreams of those in power. In
these images, both performers and spectators embody the people—the lowercase, everyday
folk, in contrast to the exalted, capital-“P” Other. Yet the true narrator of the discourse—power
itself—remains invisible. Hence, this project aims to lay bare that power narrative.
In this discourse, the people hide their faces behind card stunt panels: only in this concealment
can the dreamlike tableau of power come together. If a small section of this grand image is isolated, the fragment loses all meaning. Therefore, this project seeks to puncture the emptiness
of the power narrative by reconstructing these micro-scenes, inviting the audience to climb the
steps and experience the loss of individuality through concealment. Additionally, the staircase
itself becomes a metaphor for social hierarchy: one’s position on it is inscribed by power.
